We are the most educated generation in human history, and perhaps the most biomechanically informed. We track our macros, analyze our gait, perfect our lifting form, monitor our heart rate and blood sugar, and count our calories and steps. We spend billions on physical therapy, ergonomic furniture, mobility tools, and fitness.
The harder we work at fixing ourselves, the more fragile we seem to become.
PRESSURE is a different way of understanding the architecture of the human body. It explores how we have traded the fluid resilience of a Spring for the rigid protection of a Statue, and how a strategy designed to keep us safe became the source of our destruction.
This is not another book of corrective exercises or stretches. It is a roadmap back to the silent internal machinery that has been with you from the beginning.
After this fantastic and sobering journey, you'll never look at your health and fitness the same way again.
"Just wait until you're fifty."
You've heard it. PRESSURE comes out on March 23, 2027, the day the author turns fifty.
Robert R. Setree III is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and the head instructor of Criterion Jiu-Jitsu. With over two decades on the mat, his research focuses on human movement mechanics, technical efficiency, and physical tensegrity, stripping away the noise to uncover the foundational laws of leverage. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky, with his girlfriend and dogs.
"PRESSURE challenges one of our most deeply ingrained assumptions: that physical deterioration is simply an inevitable part of aging. Through a fascinating exploration of biomechanics, breathing, and the body's innate capacity for adaptation, Robert Setree offers a provocative new perspective on human strength and resilience. His work echoes a fundamental principle of Traditional Chinese Medicine: true health emerges not from forcing the body into submission, but from restoring its natural capacity for balance and function. An illuminating and deeply thought-provoking read." Dr. Mateo Bernal, DTCM
"I planned to start with a single chapter, but couldn't put it down all night. Rob has all the qualities of a true master: obsession, curiosity, and the refusal to settle for anything less than the truth. We're lucky to go along for the ride as he lets go of his own long-held beliefs about strength and movement to seek out better answers in unlikely places. This book is truly 1/1 and there's no one else in the world who could have written it. Anyone fascinated by martial arts, grappling, and the limits of human potential will absolutely love it." Patrick Garvey, author of The Heir of Achilles
